Why Are We Afraid Of Shadows?

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…” (Psalm 23:4)

Sometimes we feel shipwrecked in a valley of shadows. It is the obstacles in our life that block the light and create shadows. We forget that God is bigger than any shadow or problem in our life. We get too focused on the shadows when a little light shined on the situation would cause the shadow to dissipate.

The Shadow Is Temporary; The Light Is Always There

When we are in darkness and shadow, the sun is shining brightly on the other side of the planet. There are millions of people over there going to school, going to work, doing business and running errands as if everything is normal. We sit here in the dark having a pity party, thinking we are all alone and the only one with these problems. Yet when the sun comes up we feel better. Why do we allow the shadow and darkness to have so much influence? We need to shine some light on our situation because the lie that we are alone OR the only one with THESE problems is exactly that – a LIE. (It is also a lie that we are the only one awake in the middle of the night.)

Let’s Refocus

Instead of focusing on the possibilities of what might be in the shadow, let’s refocus on the light and God’s promises. We need to shine the truth of God’s word on the shadow. We need to speak God’s word while we walk confidently through the shadow. We are coming out the other side victorious that we didn’t allow some shadows to stop our progress!

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.”
(Isaiah 54:17)
