Emotionally Charged Decisions

When we are younger, we tend to throw fits and come unglued over the smallest things. We make decisions based on our emotions. These characteristics reflect immaturity. When we get older, we can’t keep making decisions like that otherwise we will be making wrong, emotionally charged decisions.

Tired, Illogical Thinking

Elijah killed 450 prophets (1 Kings 18:19, 40). He outran a chariot (1 Kings 18:46). He did all of this in one day but then found himself running scared from a woman who threatened to kill him (1 Kings 19:1-2). Then he sat down under a tree, told God he was worthless and asked God to kill him (1 Kings 19:4). Have you ever done anything illogical when you were tired? If Elijah wanted to die, all he had to do was just let the woman kill him instead of running away. The problem was that he was tired and not thinking clearly.

God Provides

Elijah had fallen asleep. God sent an angel to touch Elijah, telling him to get up and eat. There were bread and water, so he ate, drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more.” So he got up and ate and drank again. (1 Kings 19:5-8)

You Have To Take Care Of YOU! It’s Ok To Be Human

You’re going to hear me say this more than once because, in today’s society, we seem to need more reminding than ever. Even in Elijah’s day, God told him to take a break, rest, and take another break. It’s ok to catch your breath before taking off again. Eat, drink, and sleep, and THEN you can start making decisions again. Whatever you do, listen to God’s still small voice telling you to replenish. Take a rest. Get renewed in his word. Eat, drink, and sleep. It really is that simple.
