God Provides Breakfast In Bed

Room service and breakfast in BED! We serve a GOOD God!!! Of course, to put it in context, Elijah was under a tree in the desert and asking God to let him die. The point is God knew what Elijah needed and provided it. …Beside his head was some bread baked on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again. (1 Kings 19:6)

Physical And Spiritual Hydration

The jar of water was by his head. That is not a coincidence. God does things purposefully. The water was by his head representing the need to wash our mind with the washing of the water of the word. We need to get the living water into us to renew us. There is physical water to hydrate our body and spiritual water to hydrate our soul. We need both because we can be right in our heart, but wrong in our head.

Eat, Drink, And Sleep Or The Journey Will Be Too Much For You

1 Kings 19:7 reads “Then the angel of the LORD came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.”

There is a pattern of taking care of Elijah in these verses. Eat, drink, and sleep. How is it that we think that we can just rest one night or a few hours after working long days for months, and it will be enough to press on? God is showing in this verse that he is aware that if we don’t rest the journey will be too much for us. Why is it that WE don’t believe this, and we continue to push ourselves?

Let’s Read The Instruction Book And Do What It Says To Do

God is our creator. He is our maker. So he knows what makes us tick and what it takes for us to run the most effectively. Maybe we should read the instruction book and do what it says to do.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)

“Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” (1 Kings 19:7)
