Distractions can be roadblocks that keep us from focusing. We can try to focus on our kids, but our smart phone keeps beeping notifications to sidetrack us. We can try to read or write, but someone’s voice nearby keeps breaking into our thoughts. We can try to do basic tasks, but we cannot focus on them because our mind is reviewing all of the problems we are facing. In Mark 4:3, Jesus says, “Listen!” That is the simplest lesson we can follow. Listen, pay attention, and heed Jesus’ words.

Worry Deteriorates Relationships

Jesus was in the garden praying and was distracted by the fact that his friends, the Disciples, couldn’t stay awake long enough to pray for Him. They tried to talk Him out of His purpose. They worried about Him, instead of supporting Him in His time of need. They distracted Him with their worry.

Did We Worry Enough Yesterday?

Jesus said, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34) Do we ever reach tomorrow and think, I didn’t worry enough yesterday about what is happening today?

Jesus Said. Listen!

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22)

Don’t worry about anything…pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)

Join me today in letting go of the cares for which we have no control and let’s trust God to work all things out for our good. (Romans 8:28)
