The word launch means to set in motion. To thrust is to suddenly lunch in a direction. A lunge is a movement where our body thrusts forward. It may cause us to be unbalanced, and it can be uncomfortable. So when Jesus says, “THRUST OUT!” He’s saying at my word, lunge forward to do a thing and be prepared to launch into the deep.

Thrust Out (A Little) Then Launch Into The Deep

In Luke 5, Jesus told some fishermen to thrust out a little from the land. (Luke 5:3) Jesus taught the people on the shore from the ship; then he told them to launch out into the deep (Luke 5:4). Simon told Jesus that they had already toiled all night and caught nothing but, “At thy word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:5) They pulled up so much fish their ship began to sink. They signaled for their partner, a nearby ship, to come help and both ships were overflowing (Luke 5:6-7).

Why Try Again?

1. Same water, same task, but Jesu s is putting his supernatural on it.
2. Obey in faith.
3. At his command, God can overwhelm you with a blessing from a source that was previously dry.
4. It happened as follows: Assist Jesus after they had worked all night, Jesus taught the people, the men likely also received the word, then Jesus blessed their obedience with a supernatural catch.

Be Encouraged!

Take God at his word. God uses average people to do extraordinary things. The inner me and enemy want to convince you that this is how it will always be – toiling. Press in to hear the word, show up to worship when you don’t need it so that God is there when you need him. You are empowered as these fishermen were. Launch into the deep today.
