Wearing something uncomfortable is a miserable feeling. Have you ever worn an outfit or a pair of shoes that just don’t fit, right? Well, I have. My Dad bought me this custom-made coat once that just wasn’t my style and didn’t “fit” me. When my Dad gave it to me, I told him the truth. I said, “Dad, I love you and I love the coat. It’s so nice that you did this for me but listen, it’s just not me.” I owed it to him to be truthful but tactful. He wasn’t happy about it, but we compromised by keeping the coat at his house so that he could wear it because he liked it more than I did. We can’t allow other people to decide what works for us, we need to stand firm in who we are and what fits us based on what God has put in our heart.

I Can’t Move With This Stuff On. I’m Not Used To It!

In the bible, David knew what it was like to be asked to wear something that didn’t fit. In 1 Samuel 17:38, “Then Saul outfitted David as a soldier in armor. He put his bronze helmet on his head and belted his sword on him over the armor. David tried to walk, but he could hardly budge. David told Saul, “I can’t even move with all this stuff on me. I’m not used to this.” And he took it all off.”

Are We Wearing Things Not Intended For Us?

How many of us have been living lives that are so far beneath what God has called us to live because we’ve been wearing shoes that don’t fit or an attitude or lifestyle that was never intended for us? How many of us wear tags that were given to us by our parents? Or Mom and Dad suited us up and we think we can’t do anything different for fear of disappointing them?

Maybe We Need To Be Uncomfortable So That We Will Do Something About It!

God might call us to change our livelihood in order to help change other people’s lives. God is trying to connect us to the right people so we can do the right thing, but as God is maneuvering us into place, we say, “I can’t move in this thing!”

  • I don’t get to church this way.
  • I can’t do the family business.
  • I don’t want to be a dentist.
  • I don’t want to play ball. I know Dad wants everyone in the family to play ball and someone is going to make it big, but I’m just not a ball player.
  • Maybe you’re a lawyer, a poet, a truck driver, or a bus driver.

We Need To Rock Our Destiny!

Whatever it is that we’re called to be or do, we have to rock that in order to fulfill our destiny, our purpose. We can’t keep wearing stuff that that doesn’t fit. We can’t always be a people pleaser!

Your Tailor-Made Purpose Is In Your Heart Just Waiting For You To Walk It Out

Sometimes we have to get bold enough to know who we are and what we want to do because there is nothing worse than NOT discovering that until we are 40 or 50 years old. Stand firm in what God has put on your heart to be and to do. The clothes that fit the best are the ones God provides and that would be the unique gift, talent or ability that He has placed into your heart. Are you bold enough to start living out that gift in your life today?
