The sin within us keeps sabotaging our best intentions. If we focus on our sin instead of His righteousness, then we continue to do more sin. So we’re practicing sin. If we get in church regularly and hear the word, read the word and speak the word, then we are practicing righteousness by focusing on him. We may not do it right all the time, but at least we’re practicing the right things.

The Inner Struggle

In Romans 7:18-20, the Bible reads, “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I continue to do it. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.”

We Go Where We Focus

When we drive, if we look at something over in a field on the side of the road, our car will drift in that direction because our body follows the direction of our eyes. We all have internal struggles. If we focus on what we’re not, instead of what he is, we will continue to have the behavior that we hate about ourselves.

Be Encouraged!

Lord, I decree and declare that today is the day we begin practicing righteousness. Today is the day we focus more on you and less on how we messed up thirty minutes ago. As we direct our eyes to you and our thinking to your words, then we will think about our shortcomings less, and we will see more success as we walk this out daily with you. Amen!
