What separates people who make a big impact from those who don’t? (Big is relative.) They focus on one thing (Proverbs 4:25). I hear people say, “Thank God It’s Friday. I’m just glad I made it through the week.” The most successful people don’t just get through the week. As a Christ follower, we need to discover our talents and use them for God, and he will take us places we never dreamed of.

Discover It, Then Use It Or Lose It

Many people are so focused on the money or lifestyle that they don’t have time for God, for his word or church. Jesus tells a story in the Bible about a guy who had five talents (Matthew 25:14-30) and used them another who had one talent. He took the one talent from the guy who wasn’t using it and gave it to the guy with many talents. Jesus had this philosophy that we should take the gift that we have and deploy it (1 Peter 4:10). So when the guy with one talent did not use or grow his talent, God took it and gave it to someone else.

God Will Use You Even When You Do Dumb Things

If God didn’t use people who mess up, I wouldn’t be preaching. God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). So if you feel like you’ve made a bunch of dumb decisions, join the club. God is going to use you; he WANTS to use you, and he’s going to bless you.

Continue To Be Surprised That I Get To Be A Pastor

I use the little bit of talent that I have and put it on display for Jesus, and I do the best I can. I don’t do everything perfectly. You don’t do everything perfectly, but you need to discover your spiritual gift and deploy it.

Be Encouraged!

Lord, let my friend’s eyes look directly forward and let their gaze be straight before them (Proverbs 4:25). Help them to identify their talent and to use it for your glory. Amen!
