What do farmers do? They sow. And then they reap what they sow. One way we can sow is by praying five minutes a day. Sowing time with God is like sowing time with our spouse. When we sow time with our spouse and take a genuine interest in them, in their needs, and in what they care about, it makes us a better husband or wife. As we learn about our spouse, it helps us to relate more effectively, to care for them the way they need, and it draws us closer together. God wants to be close to us; he wants our focused attention.
Use God’s Words When You Don’t Have Your Own
The following is an example of how you might get started. Try reading Matthew 6:11-13 line by line and then inject a few of your thoughts in between.
Give us this day our daily bread. (Matthew 6:11)
– Thank you, Lord, for your provision. Thank you for ensuring my needs are met. Thank you for making a way when I see no way. Thank you for using others to help me in times of need.
Forgive us our debts. (Matthew 6:12)
– Lord, you forgave me a big debt. Thank you for your love and mercy. Thank you for your grace. I know I don’t deserve it, but I am so thankful for you.
As we forgive our debtors. (Matthew 6:12)
– Lord, you forgave me the big debt and all others are small in comparison so I will forgive the debts (wrongs) others have committed against me. I understand that you will forgive me only as much as I forgive others. So I will let it go.
And do not lead us into temptation. (Matthew 6:13)
– Lord I know temptation will come, but I also know that you make a way out every time. Thank you for walking with me to keep me on the path with you. I know I don’t do as well when I take off on my own without you. Thank you for your renewed mercy every day.
But deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13)
– Lord, I am the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. I don’t get what I deserve but what Jesus deserves and the devil has no hold over me. In Your Mighty and Precious Name.
For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen! (Matthew 6:13)
