If you NEED someone really bad, you might just GET someone really bad. This applies in relationships as well as leadership in the corporate world.
As you shape your leadership team, be sure that you’re inviting someone into your circle who has the ability to work well with others. One disjointed person on the team can throw the entire organization off kilter.
Let’s look at King David before he became king. In spite of mistreatment and knowing he was to be king one day, David:
– Served under King Saul
– Was obedient
– Respected Saul’s position of authority over him and as one of God’s anointed
– Was a team player
If David had been disrespectful, disobedient, had attitude or was rebellious, his talent would not have outweighed the disruption his demeanor would have created within the organization.
David’s CHOICE to be an obedient, respectful, team player kept things running more smoothly for the team. It also most likely affected the longer term bigger picture of the organization’s success.
Going against your heart and hiring someone based solely on talent will cost you dearly, causing you much pain and regret. This holds true in the corporate world as well.
When choosing someone to be a part of your team don’t forget to deal with serious questions. You NEED to ask them. Most of all, don’t be blinded by their talent and overlook your gut instinct.
David was talented AND a team player. Saul was lucky to have him as an employee. Have you come across a “David” lately?
