I’m often asked by pastors, “HOW DO YOU GET PEOPLE TO COME BACK EVERY WEEK?”
I believe that people already feel bad about themselves long before they ever get to church.
I have been given great advice over the years and would like to offer a few things for your consideration as a leader of any organization (including families).
Here are things I try to do:
1. Ask myself the following questions:
– Do they need to know what they’re doing wrong?
– Or do I need to point out what is right about the situation and trust God to help them overcome what they’re going through?
2. Try to address people in a conversational manner and have FUN doing it.
3. Try to monitor tones and inflections so that I’m not yelling the entire time.
4. Try to take dramatic pauses and breathe, this gives people a chance to assimilate what I’m saying. This also gives me a chance to throttle back and NOT be so “preachy”.
5. The most powerful words come directly from the prophet Moses “LET MY PEOPLE GO“. Sometimes, less is more, ESPECIALLY WHEN GOD IS IN IT!
