Pastor David Crank - Have You Disappointed Anyone Lately?
Do you have the opportunity to commit yourself to MANY activities? Saying yes all day to many things can overwhelm your schedule and your life.

It is so hard to say no when people want you to do something really bad.

It is okay to disappoint a few people so that you don’t disappoint everybody.

What do I mean? Sometimes in my profession, a pastor will give everything he has and some of what he doesn’t have in order to make people happy. Then the same pastor becomes so tired and wasted that he surrenders his or her dreams and life’s work. Pastors can become fragmented over the idea of disappointing even a few people so that they end up disappointing everyone.

Recently, my daughter was in the church, where she would love to be seven days a week if I allowed her. More than anything, she loves the church, church activities and her friends at church. I looked at her cute, little, nine-year-old face running around the church and doing life.

I told myself, “David, whatever you do, don’t mess this up for her!”

If I don’t disappoint a few people now, I will eventually disappoint everyone. The reason this happens is because people give the illusion that they are Superman/Superwoman and can do everything with, AND for everybody.

So…

I just wanted to let you know, I am not Superman and I cannot golf with everyone, in fact, I can’t even golf!

I also can’t go to everyone’s home, or go on everyone’s fishing trip.

What I CAN do is stay healthy, and learn to DISAPPOINT SOME, SO THAT I DON’T DISAPPOINT ALL.

Have you “disappointed” anyone lately? If you haven’t, maybe you need to consider it.
