In the early years of my life, I spent a lot of time worrying about what people thought of me. I wanted them to like me and it frustrated me.
There’s no quicker way to lose your joy than over something that you cannot control.
I have a friend whose husband had several muscle cars. It drove her crazy that he had these cars sitting in the garage that he rarely drove. Yet they had to pay personal property taxes, insurance fees, and other expenses that were a significant expense.
Her husband was unwilling to sell the vehicles because he enjoyed having them in the garage. It frustrated her to the point that she began to grow bitter toward him because she did not understand his perspective.
Eventually, she heard the Lord say, in a still small whisper, on the inside of her, “Stop allowing this to irritate you.”
They had the resources to afford the vehicles and it brought joy and emotional health to her husband. Within a few weeks after she had privately let go of the resentment, her husband decided that he ought to sell the cars since he never drove them.
This is an example of how the enemy will try to frustrate you from the inside out. It works so effectively because we do not understand what is going on in another person’s heart and mind.
If something is causing you resentment today, let me encourage you to find a way to “LET IT GO.” By letting it go, you’re freeing YOURSELF. It will also help to complete a work that is needed in you and God can then move on to work on the rest of the situation.
