There is a great invention called noise canceling headphones that can be worn to create a softer, quieter atmosphere around the person wearing them. Yet, no matter how much we try to quiet the voices outside of our head, the voices inside of our head are talking seven days a week.

80% Of Our Thoughts Are Negative

The thoughts in our head never stop and they are the enemy of our soul. It is said that 80% of what we hear in our head is negative. And it is not what we hear that is the problem, but what we choose to believe. We have preconceived ideas about what people think about us based on what one person has said. The voices in our head can be so loud that we can’t hear what God is saying. Sometimes I go for a walk alone and argue with myself it took me awhile to realize that the enemy is the inner-me.

Get A New Recording!

We have the same recordings playing over and over in our minds. We need to mute the voices and download a new playlist. We need to change the channel and reprogram our mind.

We Do The Things That We Think About

We internalize our sin and then we do the thing that we think about. Yet, the Bible says, “Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.” (Romans 6:14)

Don’t Sentence Yourself With Your Sentences

The internal lies that we believe cause us to live a life sentence by the sentences that come out of our mouth. We have to talk back to the voices, talk back to our storms, and talk back to the devil.

Why Does Jesus State The Obvious?

In Mark 4, Jesus and the disciples were getting in the boat to go across the lake. Jesus told the disciples, “Let us go to the other side.” That’s like me saying to my family after church as we’re getting into the car, “Let us go home” when it’s obvious that we always go home after church.

Let’s Talk Back To That Storm

The storm was audibly talking through swells, clouds and thunder. Jesus had to tell it, “I’m going to the other side.” A few verses later, when the storm is in full force and the disciples are freaking out, Jesus muzzles that storm by saying, “Peace. Be still.” The disciples were internalizing the lies of the situation and Jesus used words to shut down the storm.

What We Choose To Believe Determines How We Handle Our Storms

Storms hit the person who internalizes lies differently than one who internalizes the Word of God. This is the only life we’ll ever live, we need to stop listening to the negative voices and focus on God’s still whisper. Starting right now, we need to say, “I’m going to the other side!”
