In the United States, 85% of Americans spend more they make. Debt is a real problem. When we face a problem such as a mountain of debt we tend to roll it around in our head. The issue grows from a molehill into a mountain. When we write it on paper it becomes more manageable and less overwhelming. It becomes something that we can break into pieces and tackle one piece at a time. We are less likely to procrastinate and more energized to get a plan of action together.

By Putting It On Paper, We Are Bringing It From The Unseen (Our Mind) To The Seen World (Paper)

“And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk 2:2

The verse above isn’t talking about running away once we see it in writing. The intent is to clarify the goal in writing so that we can make it happen. Writing something down gets it out of our head and into reality. It allows us to see it, to read it, to examine and clarify the plan. The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory.

Do We Forget What We See In The Mirror When We Walk Away?

“But be doers of the word…if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. (James 1:22-24)

By putting pen to paper, we don’t allow ourselves to be that person who looks in the mirror and walks away and forgets who we are and what we have chosen to commit to. Writing it down is a higher level of commitment than just keeping it in our head. It is now something tangible that we can begin to build on. It is a starting point.

We Need To Do What We Can With What We Have And God Will Do What We Can’t With What He Has

We might not have the best of everything, but we can make the best of everything. We can’t wait on an inheritance, the lottery or the government to bail us out. We need to work with what we have right now. God has given us time, talent and treasure to work with. That includes ideas for creating additional forms of income.

“…Remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives you power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant…” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Join me here tomorrow as I discuss HOW TO GET MOTIVATED to move TOWARDS the goal of becoming debt free!
