We are programmed by what we see, hear, read, and CHOOSE to focus on. How do we fix something? We troubleshoot! We do that by changing the parts or the inputs until we get the results we want.

Lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

We need to focus on what we are trying to embrace rather than what we are trying to change. Every input we remove (even temporarily) needs to be replaced with a new one.

Try Some Of The Following For 4-7 Days:

  • Watch spiritual teachings instead of secular television shows
  • Watch FaithChurch.com online messages
  • Read the bible
  • Listen to spiritual teaching podcasts
  • Listen to Christian music (contemporary, R&B, gospel or rock) or Christian radio stations
  • Minimize interaction with social media, texting or anything digital
  • Talk to family
  • Go for walks
  • Play board games
  • Throw a Frisbee
  • Make a focused effort to include God throughout each day

Do life differently. Troubleshoot. Come up with your own ideas too!

“[Cleanse your mind with] the washing of water by the Word…” Ephesians 5:26

The Counterfeit Is Never As Good As The Real Thing

When we return to watching and listening to secular things, it doesn’t feel as good after being desensitized during our time away. It’s like going from real fruit back to sugary cereal. What used to taste good is not as satisfying because it’s a counterfeit of the REALLY GOOD STUFF which is from God. There is a reason Paul gave us the following guidance about our thinking:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Consider

I’d like to challenge you to examine the programming that you allow into your life. It may be digital, it may be people, or activities. Consider, of the things you choose, what draws you near to God?
