Why is it that we wait until there are seven kinds of trouble before we will obey God? We wait until all hell breaks loose, and all of a sudden our rebellious attitude falls off and we are ready to do as God asks. When calamity comes, the people fill the churches. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) when we go our own way. When it comes down to it, we often create our storms.
Storms We Create
God will forgive someone of adultery, but his wife may not and the disease he gets from that decision may kill him. Some storms are our own. We KNOW what God tells us to do and NOT to do and yet we flat don’t want to do as he says. Jonah knew God was telling him to go a specific direction and he knowingly disobeyed and went the opposite direction (Jonah 1:1-3). When he finally surrendered to God, the safety net was in place in the way of a big fish that held him for three days (Jonah 1:17). God makes a way out for us (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Obedience Is The Blessing Exchange
God doesn’t bless us because we are good; He blesses us because he is good. Anytime we do what God has told us not to do; we are NOT doing what he has told us TO do.
We can’t obey and disobey at the same time.
We can’t agree and disagree with God at the same time.
We can’t be close to God and ignore him at the same time.
What God tells us to do is part of a bigger picture that we cannot fully see. We need to trust that he will work out all things for our good (Romans 8:28) and all things have a purpose. Obeying him doesn’t just please God, it is what is in our best interest as well. God only wants good things for us.
Just Kick It!
I’d like to encourage you to obey and trust God today. Kick your pride and rebellion to the curb and do what he’s telling you. Trust me, if we follow God, we win, and on this journey, doing life his way, we’ll experience more satisfaction than we’ve ever known.
