Life moves forward with new and improved circumstances. We quickly get accustomed to new levels as they becomes our new normal. Next, we stop being thankful and look to the next new thing. Sometimes we even wish for the old thing, if this new thing wasn’t what we wanted or expected.

Here’s How Things Unfolded Between God And The Israelites In The Desert:

1. Freedom
a. God rescued them from an overbearing ruler and gave them freedom (Exodus 6:6; 12:31)
b. He did this through one man who had a stutter (Exodus 4:10)
c. He enforced the command by sending plagues that incentivized the king to release them (Exodus 7:14-11:10)

2. Hunger
a. They complained of being hungry (Deuteronomy 8:3)
b. God fed them with Manna, food they had never heard of
c. How often does God give you a solution that you couldn’t have possibly known about? Or that wasn’t what you wanted or asked for, but it met the need?

3. Clothing
a. They wore the same clothes and shoes for forty years (Deuteronomy 8:4)
b. God ensured the clothes and shoes did not wear out

4. The Dream
a. God told them to go in and possess the land he was showing them; God was going before them to fight for them as he did in Egypt (Deuteronomy 1:8)
b. The Israelites complained about how big the people were and the great fortified cities

This was when God grew angry for as much as he did for them; the Israelites never believed God. After the plagues in Egypt and the fire by night and cloud by day for guidance. And God stopped an entire generation from seeing the promised land, and he saved it for the next one. (Deuteronomy 1:34-35)

Man Does Not Live By Bread Alone

God wanted to teach the Israelites: People do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:3)

Be Encouraged

I encourage you to start thanking God for the solution or provision in your life. Even if it was not what you wanted or expected, give thanks! Thank him for all the things he has provided that are no longer exciting or new but that you once wished for. Count your blessings and thank God today. I can imagine it would make him smile.
