In Genesis 29:31, God saw that Leah was hated, and he opened up her womb while Rachel stayed barren. Leah was committed even though she wasn’t happy with the
circumstances. God blessed her commitment.
The story unfolds with Jacob working seven years to earn Rachel’s hand in marriage. Her Dad tricked Jacob into marrying her older sister Leah. He said something like, “It is the law that I marry off my oldest daughter first, but you can work another seven years for Rachel’s hand.” So Jacob did so.
Leah knew she was not the one he wanted. God saw the injustice and blessed her with kids. She thought if she kept giving him kids that he would come to love her. By the time she had her fourth child, she had named him Judah, which means praise. She was determined to praise God whether this guy loved her or not.
She was going to be thankful instead of pining over the fact that her sister was more beautiful and the one that Jacob wanted. She stayed focused on the fact that she had something Rachel did not, she had kids. We need to stay committed and focus on what we have and the value God gives us.
Lord, we are committed to you. We value ourselves and do not discount our worth because quality never goes on sale. We are committed to praising you whether other people value us or not. Our value does NOT come from our situation. We know that when others don’t like us, you will bless us as we continue to do the right thing. We are committed to you, and we know that you are committed to us. I call you blessed! Amen!
