Ever feel like you are headed in the wrong direction? I remember learning to drive my dad’s old truck. It was a stick shift, and the reverse was up and over to the left, right next to first gear. I was startled a time or two when I accidentally shifted improperly and the truck darted the wrong way.
Sometimes we know we have four or five more gears available to us, but we are afraid to shift because we think our lives will quickly dart the wrong way. Stuck in place, we just inch along in life, thinking to ourselves, “Man, shouldn’t I be further along than this by now?” And discouragement sets in.
But what if I told you God is getting ready to shift you into a new gear? Into a new season? For the longest time, you thought it safest to just stay in first gear, fearful of shifting because you know “reverse” is close by. You can hear the engine straining, the transmission winding, and you know there’s more. And you are right! I want to explore letting God shift our gears through the power of His grace.
Let me just say that there have been times in my life when I felt like, “Man, if God would just help me get to this next level – to shift gears – it would change everything.” But I was hesitant to believe that I was in a place spiritually where the Lord was going to move me into a higher gear. The problem was that for far too long I was listening to the wrong “teachers.” These voices were telling me things like, “God’s going to get you for that. Oh, that’s going to set you back. God’s mad at you.” It’s like some Christian karma or something!
But God’s grace is sufficient and He’s planning great things for us. He’s been planning exceeding and abundantly above all that we can ever ask or think according to the power that works within us (Eph. 3:20).
See, there’s this big engine on the inside of a truck that I borrowed, and it’s a screamer. I’m talking about a truck loaded with horsepower. Do you know that God’s bigger than 500 horsepower? When you engage your faith with His favor, before you know it you are speed shifting into fifth gear. When the fear of messing up or accidentally shifting into reverse disappears, you have realized the fullness of God’s blessing.
So, I’ve got to tell you today, tune out those bad teachers and stop inching along in life. God wants to put His favor upon your life and accelerate you to a level that you never thought possible. ________________________
