List everything you owe. Big or small, write it down. Put it in a spreadsheet or on a piece of paper. The devil will whisper, “You’re never going to do this. You can’t possibly pay all of that off. You’d have to make twice as much just to make a dent in that.” The Father of Lies wants to keep you from getting started. If his lips are moving, he’s lying. So speak back to him.
You Have The Power
Remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you the power to make wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:18)
God is showing you creative ways to save money, to make more money, to work smarter, to get more skills or education so that you can put more money towards the debt. He is also showing you how to be content while you’re on this journey.
You Are Committed
Because I am committed to this goal, I am not double-minded, I do not change my mind, so I am stable in all of my ways. (James 1:8 paraphrased)
You Are An Overcomer
The rich rules over the poor and the borrower is a slave to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7) And I see victory.
You Are Victorious In Your Finances
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? (Luke 14:28) I dare to add up my debt and face the truth of my situation.
You Will Eventually Owe Only Love
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. (Romans 8:13)
You Take One Bite At A Time
Review each bill individually. Don’t focus on the overall total. Alone, they are not scary. Each one is a milestone towards your victory. Listing debt and facing reality is a victory. You are on your way to having the peace of mind that comes with owing no man.
