Many people never see their dreams become a reality. Why? One thing that stands in the way is not having a clear vision of where they’re going. As we launch into 2013 I want you to define your dream. Be very specific. What do you want to be successful at? I’m not asking what you think others want you to be successful at or what society says, but what is in YOUR heart?
The Bible says to write down the vision and make it plain (Habakkuk 2:2). Without a clear-cut vision you won’t arrive at your assigned destination. Once you define your course, then, once a week, go back and make sure you’re getting closer to your goal and not farther away from it.
It’s so easy to allow “dream thieves” to steal your momentum. In the area of health it might be missing a day or two of exercise or falling off of the proverbial health food wagon. Don’t allow a couple of bad choices to affect your dream! Get back up, redefine the direction and with clarity move forward again! Forget about past failure. Focus on what you CAN do something about and that is the NEXT decision.
One last thing, be sure of what you want.
Do you want to get out of debt?
Do you want to lose weight?
Do you want to treat people better?
Do you want to improve your leadership?
For each one of these goals you must have a corresponding course of action.
If I say I want to drive from St Louis, Missouri, to Dallas, Texas, I’m going to decide what date I will leave. I will determine how long I expect to take to get there based on how fast I plan to drive. I will map out a route to get there. I won’t just say, I think I’ll leave tomorrow and start heading in that general direction… all roads do not lead to Texas and I might never get there!
Be very specific and make sure your goals are measurable and NOT vague. The more specific and clear you are the more concrete you can be about your final outcome and the more likely it is that you will reach your dream.
