Is home the place you go to stop being nice?
I was in the grocery store one time and somebody hit me in the back of the heel with a shopping cart. They said, “Oh, I’m sorry!” And I responded, “That’s all right.” (But it hurt like CRAZY!)
I probably wouldn’t have been as nice to my wife or kids, as I was that stranger. I probably would have said, “What are you doing! Keep that cart away from me!” But these are the people who will be at my funeral, I should be REALLY nice to THEM! 😉 Now, this situation with this total stranger, THEY are the one I should get upset with. Right?
I excuse my behavior sometimes because I think, well, it’s ok because I’m under pressure, or they should know better. But those are excuses!
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you… Matthew 7:12
I play tennis with my wife a lot and sometimes when I’m playing with her she’ll hit a shot and I want to point out, “Hey don’t do that!” where if it were someone else, I would never say that. So just recently, I made a conscious decision to treat my wife BETTER than I treat other people.
Today, I’d like to encourage you to join me as we take a look inside and stop being rude to the people that we live with each and every day. Don’t just save “nice” for once you’ve walked out the front door!
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. Luke 6:31
