The way we dress says something about what we are doing and how we are approaching life. Are we prepared? We wouldn’t wear high heels while working at a muddy construction site. We wouldn’t wear a ski cap when the activity requires a motorcycle helmet. We wouldn’t use a spoon when the most effective tool is a shovel. God offers us a wardrobe and equipment that will prepare and protect us under all circumstances.
The Armor Of God
This sounds like something we might purchase at a sporting goods store, but these are not things we can buy or see. We need to put on our armor (Ephesians 6:14-18) purposefully every morning. Just because we cannot see the enemy does not mean he does not exist.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)
The Master Scammer
We have a master manipulator who is trying to smoke and mirror us and freak us out. He will get us all worked up if we don’t put on the whole armor of God. When the enemy tries to fight against us, we have to make sure he is unable to join our inner-me in order to self-sabotage us.
That’s Not My Problem
When something comes against us, we need to say:
That’s not my problem because God is going to meet my needs and is going to fix this situation.
Just because my most recent problems (debt, cancer, failed relationships) took me by surprise does not mean they took God by surprise.
God has a plan to work this situation out for my good (Romans 8:28), he wants me to have hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
