When Peter walked on the water, it was as if Peter was Gilligan and Jesus was the Professor. Gilligan’s Island always represented the Professor as confident and Gilligan as inept. When Peter walked he had to have a lump in his throat as he stepped out of the boat. Then his focus broke and he lost the context of the situation. He couldn’t see himself walking on water, because we can’t walk on water, right?
Jesus Corrects Us With Kindness
Jesus stood on the water nearby. He may have chuckled saying something like this “Ha ha ha… Where is your faith, Peter? Focus on ME!” Some people like to portray it as Jesus coming down hard on Peter, but I believe Jesus was reminding Peter in a compassionate way.
Our Success Is Determined By Our Consistent Focus On God
Peter walked on the water twice because God empowered Peter to do it. Peter’s focus on God allowed that to happen. When Peter lost focus, he sank.
We Need To Take Some Time To Evaluate Where We Have Lost Focus
It’s similar to figuring out where we made a wrong turn and got lost. We get out of focus and begin making bad decisions. We need to determine why we’ve lost focus.
