God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). God gave Hezekiah financial success and miracles (2 Chronicles 32:20-30). But Hezekiah’s heart was proud, and he did not respond to God. Success is the toughest test because it feeds our pride. And pride goeth before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). C.S. Lewis said, True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.
Stay Humble
We stay humble by putting our pain on display. We aren’t telling people that we are perfect and we are here to fix you. No. We have the same problems everyone else does; we just happen to get on stage and share them with you each week. Many people are critical of my wife, Nicole, because she looks like a supermodel and they assume she has never had a rough day in her life. She has overcome significant obstacles. None of us are qualified, we are called, and God qualifies the called.
We Are All In The Same Boat
We are all tempted to get prideful when we are successful. And to keep that at bay, we need to stay grateful. Thank God for our successes and genuinely give him the glory. Your life is a stage and the people around you are watching, listening, and giving you feedback. Are you listening to them or God? #StayHumble
Be Encouraged
I invite you to walk through each day saying something like this: “This is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). I’m the best version of me that I can be and I thank God all day every day. I am focused on improving me so that there is no time to compare myself with others which might give pride a foothold. I rejoice in the Lord, and again I say rejoice (Philippians 4:4). I thank God for every good and perfect gift he provides.” (James 1:17)
I call you blessed! Amen.
