When I was growing up, my Dad and Uncle would get into explosive fights at family gatherings, and they burned bridges. What happens is that we begin to model the behavior that we have seen modeled by other people. We can’t change the past, but we CAN change the future.

Dad’s Way Or The Highway

Getting along with others take great skill. It’s not about me; it’s about we. We need to learn how to get along even though we don’t agree. With my Dad, it was his way or the highway. If you didn’t agree with him, you couldn’t be his friend. That mindset tends to burn more bridges than it builds.

If They Aren’t Against Us, They Must Be For Us

Jesus knew a little bit about winning friends. He is the one who built a bridge to get us to heaven. His model was if they aren’t against us they are FOR us. We need to focus on the GOOD in others instead of focusing on what they are doing.

Be A Bridge Builder

If we allow the peace of God to camp around our mind, we will have peace beyond all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Stop meddling in the business of others that causes you to get into offense and to burn a bridge. Start living life on purpose realizing that God gave you a unique thumbprint so that you could make YOUR unique imprint on the world.

Thankfulness Builds More Bridges Than It Burns

Lord we thank you for the opportunities to build bridges on a daily basis with family, friends, coworkers and strangers (new friends we haven’t yet met). We will purposefully focus on the good in others and stay out of their business. As we spend time with you, we WILL begin to see others through your loving eyes. Thank you, Jesus! Amen!
