When we filmed “Reel It In”, I knew that I had hired the right guys, the right boat, had the right bait, and the right day. Sure I’m an optimist and I walk in faith. When I got on that boat, I said, “God, I’m here to preach today, let us catch a fish! I believe I’m here today because we’re about to reel this thing in!”

Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

Fish Or Cut Bait

Everyone is excited, leaning forward, watching every tug on that line when all of a sudden the line snapped and the “big one” got away (or so we thought). And then we all felt disappointed. Sometimes we have to stop, rebait, and rehook everything. Sometimes we lose that big client that was on the hook, or we thought that person was going to marry us or stay married to us and then something changed. That is the defining moment for us. We either decide to quit or we regroup and move forward to take another shot at this.

Will We Cast And Then Wait Long Enough To Reel It In?

Waiting to reel in what we can’t see, into the realm of what we CAN see requires patience. When it seems like it’s taking too long we lose momentum. Or we can lose confidence in people. When this happens, DO NOT cave in and quit. There is an enemy who wants us to do just that.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

With God It’s Never A Question Of Provision, But Timing

How often are we in a hurry and God is not? I had the itch to preach since I was a little boy. That itch got much stronger as an adult, but the timing was off. I had to wait. If God puts it in us to do a thing, we need to wait on Him. It is the WISE thing to wait on God because that thing will be so much bigger than we think. If we rush it, we may end up with half of what we could have had if we had waited. Timing is everything. We THOUGHT that first fish was a big one, but the next one was almost record-breaking that day.

Fishermen Who Are Fishers Of Men

I would say ironically (except with God it’s purposeful), we were using men to catch fish that day, so that in the future we could use fish to catch men. Do you know how to fish? I’d love to teach you. God has the best bait that snags a catch every time, it’s just a matter of patience.
