My Dad had the credit chat with me when I was 15. He had me get a secured credit card where I had to put $300 on the card, and then I couldn’t go over that limit. I bought and purchased items, then immediately wrote checks to pay the card. I was never surprised by a large credit card bill at the end of the month because I paid it off all throughout the month.
It Takes Money To Make Money
I have never had a bad credit experience because of my approach to money. My Dad told me it takes money to make money and he put me on a path where I didn’t need a co-signer for my first car. I saved and bought a home to fix up at a young age. When the economy was bad, I had good credit, and I could buy low and then sell high later.
You Can Reverse The Cycle
If you’re on a rough path, I want you to know that you can reverse the cycle. Do what I did using a secured credit card. Start with the smallest debt, pay it off, celebrate and add no new debts.
Your Motivator Is You
List your debts and post them on the fridge. Put a photo of a vacation destination or something you want to save up and buy once you’re debt free. Let that be your motivator. Being in debt is doing everything but thinking, and I want you to start thinking about your plan. People plan to have a good life, but they never get around to making a plan. Too many people are living in poverty because they aren’t taking control of their debt.
Be Encouraged!
God, I pray to you about my friends who may be having credit issues. They might have lost their job, had a setback or a problem. God, I ask for you to have mercy on them. Give them strength, favor, unique opportunities, and discipline to get out of debt. In Jesus Name, Amen!
