Jesus modeled how to take off our agenda and selflessly serve. After everyone had a nice meal and were lying back resting comfortably, he got up, and prepared himself to wash their feet. Jesus didn’t just take off his garment, but he put another on. Then he performed an unappealing task without being asked. We need to take off our agenda and pride and put on a servant’s attitude.
Got up from supper,
took off His garments,
and taking a [servant’s] towel,
He fastened it around His waist. (John 13:4 AMP)
We Don’t Graduate Directly From Pampers To Depends
Parts of our church smell because there are people who have never gotten out of the high chair, and they have never been changed. We need to get up from the table after we’ve eaten and make it a priority to DO SOMETHING.
We Are Created To Do GOOD WORKS!
Jesus washed the feet of the one who betrayed him because it was his purpose, not because he felt like it. We need people to brush hog, weed eat, mow lawns, or to work on landscaping. Your purpose is SOMETHING. Jesus didn’t do a task that everyone wanted to do otherwise they would have done it first. Back then, people walked everywhere, so their feet were dirty and smelled, but he pretended it didn’t smell and still did it.
What Are We Doing To Bring God Praise?
We live by what we give. This church is here because a bunch of people decided to serve God by doing what was needed. Our people didn’t necessarily know what to do or how to do it, but they were willing. Serving at church benefits you and it benefits others, but first and foremost it’s about God. I’d like to encourage you to ask yourself what you are doing to bring God praise today?
