If you wake in the middle of the night screaming, only to find out you haven’t gone to sleep – – you’re too STRESSED! Life is a marathon, not a sprint.
In my life, there have been times that I took on too much. I pushed myself too fast. I had no longevity. I wasn’t going to last long.
God has dealt with me about taking time off. He has pressed me to take off two days a month to focus on my wife. A wife is a gift to be treasured and deserves total attention. It is because of our extreme love for each other and shared vision that we have made it through this wild ride.
Do you find yourself thinking, “This place can’t run without me!”
Pride drives that type of thinking, so please resist the urge to think that way. Humble yourself before God and let it go.
As you physically and mentally push yourself, you stress your body.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19)
At one point, my wife worked full-time, would come home and lay tile, finish reviewing and answering 165 emails, and eventually had a miscarriage.
Consider that your body is “…fearfully and wonderfully made…” (Psalm 139:14)
If you want to make it for the long haul, to go long term, and make it to that last mile…
STOP treating life like a sprint and START treating it like a marathon.
