Lift Someone Up To Your Level

It’s so easy to be envious of someone who has reached a high level, who has been promoted or who has nice things. It’s easy to be envious of their position in life and to think that they got there all by themselves. Then we compare and wonder why can’t we do it on OUR own? The fact is that no one does it ALONE. Everyone needs help. At some point everyone has had a helping hand by someone, so don’t be fooled to think otherwise. We can’t go through life jealous of others. When we celebrate and life others up, God lifts us up.

A Secure Man Can Celebrate When Another Man Is Successful

We need to celebrate others instead being jealous and hoping they’ll fail. (Oh, don’t tell me you’ve never thought that about someone.) King Saul set David up as CEO of his organization, then women began singing in the streets that Saul had slain his 1000’s and David his 10,000’s. This made Saul angry. Saul got messed up by a song when he should have said, “I love you boy. I know your Dad always told you what you’re not. But who’s your sugar Daddy? You never would have killed those 10,000 if I hadn’t been your life coach. Sure I’ve killed 1000 and that’s 1000 less in the world, but it’s not about me, let’s go celebrate you on Facebook!”

Seasoned Men Need To Mentor Younger Men

David should have been mentored by King Saul. The problem is that King Saul was so busy being envious and vengeful that he couldn’t sleep at night. He would call David in to play the harp so that the music would help him sleep. Yet King Saul would get even more intimidated by David’s gifts and talents. This created an anger that would cause him to throw spears at David.

We Need To Maintain Our Integrity In The Absence Of A Role Model

Despite King Saul’s inability to be a positive role model in David’s life, David did not touch God’s anointed – he did not fight back. He continued to serve King Saul diligently and God blessed his efforts.

And likewise, during those years, King David compared himself against a standard he could never meet in King Saul’s eyes. He wanted Saul’s acceptance and love, but Saul made that an impossible goal. God was with David, so David needed to just be the best him that he could be.

God Is Our Role Model. All Comparisons Should Be Against Him, Not Other Men

David could have had peace in those circumstances, but he needed a different mindset. He needed to accept that it was enough to be himself. And the only approval he should have been looking for was God’s. I have a feeling we can all learn a lesson from that today.
