“A little lie is like a little pregnancy – it doesn’t take long before everyone knows.” C.S. Lewis

The Bible says that we should put away lying. But it’s hard isn’t it? (Don’t lie to me.) The temptation to tell a little white lie can be a slippery slope.

I heard about a little boy who was asked to define a lie and he said, “It’s an ever-present help in a time of trouble.”

Deep down, we all know that lying perpetuates the problem and gives us a reputation for being a liar.

All we truly have in life is our belief in God and others believing in us. If people can’t trust us then we will never be entrusted with the authority and power to lead our life or the lives of others. Lying is like a snowball, the further you roll it, the bigger it becomes.

Why is it that we minimize the “white” lie as having fewer consequences than what we consider to be a BIG lie? They both reduce our credibility and erode trust.

In the bible, lying is one of the top 6 things God hates (Proverbs 6:16-19) and in Proverbs 12:22 it says, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.”

The fact is that truth is uncomfortable and we try to justify lying in order to give ourselves another option. We make it all about us, when it should be about God and what he finds pleasing.

I encourage you today, every time you’re tempted to lie, choose NOT to do it! Don’t lie to yourself and say, “It’s better this way.” JUST TELL THE TRUTH.

    Truth sets you FREE from:

  • snowballing lies
  • worry about covering your tracks
  • anxiety about keeping your story straight

You will enjoy your day AND be pleasing to God!
