God Spoke. Peter Obeyed. Even When It Made No Sense

Some of the most successful people came from meager beginnings. They took a risk and approached the task, developed the product, or created a service in a way that others simply weren’t doing it. Jesus did it differently every time too. In the average person’s eyes, much of what He said to do made no sense. As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, Jesus told the fishermen to go back out and cast their nets again. Peter’s response was basically, “Hey we’ve already done this, but if you say to, we’ll go back out and do it again.” It didn’t make sense, neither did walking on water, but Peter was obedient. Peter was a man’s man, but he trusted, obeyed and did the things that made no sense to the average person.

Tired Of Trying?

We can get overwhelmed by circumstances and get tired of trying. That still small voice inside is always talking. Maybe we need to listen to it when it is telling us to do it differently than we have ever done before. Maybe we need to use a different approach, a different type of bait, or go to deeper waters that we aren’t as familiar with. When we get overwhelmed, we lose our focus and direction. We begin to doubt, hesitate, and think we’re no match for the devil. However, Jesus says otherwise. We have all authority and power and we need to speak to the storm in the name of Jesus.

Don’t Get Caught Up Chasing Multiple Fish

Jesus and Peter arrived in a new town and were asked for a temple tax. Jesus told Peter to go catch a fish and use the coin in the mouth of the first fish he caught. Jesus didn’t say to catch a bunch of fish and pull a penny out of each mouth. Sometimes we get so caught up in chasing multiple fish that we lose them all. Focus on the one thing that God has called you to do and do it. Absorb yourself in it and become a part of it. Most of all trust God like Peter did and do what He tells you to do.

God Could Have Dropped Money From The Sky, But He Loves Faith!

Peter showed faith by going to catch that fish and expectantly look for that coin. When we take God at his word, He says, “Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26) Faith needs corresponding action. If we tell someone we love them, we need to also show them or it’s not as believable. I’d like to encourage you today to decide to love again, dream again, or build that corporation again. Don’t put restrictions on God. We have our part to do. The fish are out in the deep waters, they are down below, we have to “reel them in” just like Peter.
