Don’t Let Money Drive You. You Drive Your Money

My wife Nicole and I put ourselves on a budget. The next thing I know she comes home with a new dress. I asked her what happened and she said, “When I tried it on it looked GOOD. So I said, ‘Satan get behind me!’ and then he told me that it looked good from back there too so I HAD to buy it!”

I think we’ve all seen SOMETHING in a store that called out to us to buy it at one point or another. The problem is that we tend to pay with the ease of plastic instead of the pain of cash.

D-E-B-T Is Usually Doing Everything But Thinking

Nicole and I have spent most of our life trying to make wise financial decisions and while learning from the painful ones. We buy low, fix it up and make a profit. We reinvest. We tithe. We give. We believe these are some of the traits of what it is to be a good steward of the resources God provides.

Money Is Called Currency Because It Is Supposed To Flow. If God Can Get It Through Us, He Will Get It To Us

Another acronym for debt is doing everything but tithing. This is a painful subject for some of us because all we can see is our circumstances. We can’t see how giving God the first 10% of what little we have will benefit us in the long term. All we can see is our debt. Notice how we make it all about us. Yet our real employer and income provider is God. It’s ALL about Him.

God Prefers Daily Obedience To Big Sacrifices

It’s not a good strategy to ignore our spouse. They need our attention and care in small ways all year. It’s not about doing something big every once in a while, it’s about the little things every day. God wants that too.

“…What is more pleasing to the LORD…sacrifices or your obedience to his voice?… Obedience is better than sacrifice… (1 Samuel 15:22)

God’s Tithe Was Jesus. He Gave Us His First And Best. Does He Get Ours?

Giving God the first 1/10 of our increase shows Him that we acknowledge that everything we have is His and we are just stewards of it. When we don’t give back to God what is already His, no matter what we SAY, we aren’t putting our money where our mouth is…

It’s All God’s In The First Place

We SHOW God that we realize our stuff is actually His stuff when we are obedient in this area of our life. Each minute, each hour, each day is a new opportunity to be obedient. I’m not sharing this for my benefit today, but for your own. Giving God back what’s already His, with a giving heart, has a reward that is greater than the greatest gift we can imagine. What has God asked you to be obedient about today? What is He whispering in your heart?
