What Does It Mean To Receive Grace From God?

Do you know about grace? Do you understand it? If you don’t, then you can’t enjoy benefits that you don’t even realize that you have, so keep reading and see what you think.

The 650 Horsepower Mustang

After a church service, I rode 25 minutes across town with a friend to our other campus. He’s got a 650 horsepower Mustang. We didn’t PLAN on speeding, it just accidentally happened. So we’re driving down the interstate and my friend is telling me about a very bad day he’s had, at least, until we saw the police officer.

Have You Ever Been Caught In The Act?

Now understand, police officers are here to enforce the law and this one had the radar gun out. As soon as my friend saw him, he did what we all do, and he hit the brakes hard. Don’t act like you’ve never done that. People do that when they AREN’T speeding!

Explain Courteously

So the police officer comes around to my side of the car. I rolled down the window. After he told us how fast we were going, I explained that while we’ve had fun in this car in times past, we really didn’t intend to speed on this particular day. I also explained that we had just come from Church and we were heading back to Church.

Sweat It Out

He says, “I know who you are.” He takes the license and insurance card and walks away. My friend says, “We’re so getting a ticket, man. This just tops off a horrible week. This is going to be bad!” Then the police officer comes up and he slides this piece of paper in the window and says, “This isn’t a ticket, it’s just a warning, but slow it down.” My friend’s jaw dropped in disbelief as it soaked in that he had only gotten a warning.

Receiving Grace (Also Known As Favor We Did Not Earn)

This police officer had every right to take my friend to court. He had the evidence, he had the video, he had the radar checked, and if he had gone to court, he would have been found guilty. But guess what? In one moment of unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor he was released from the sentence of his transgression. And that’s exactly what Jesus did for US!

It’s A Gift. We’ve Been Released!

Friends, you’ve been let go, you’ve been cleared of all charges the situation has been expunged. Jesus loves you!

Psalm 32:1 says, “Blessed, happy, to be fortunate, and to be envied is he who has forgiveness, and his transgressions have been remitted from him, and are covered.”
