We all have the opportunity for joy and happiness in our life. Many times we aren’t happy because we aren’t happy with ourselves. Something is going on inside of us that manifests on the outside. I was in line at a movie theatre one day and the woman behind me became very upset saying that I had cut her off in line. She went on angrily that I was the second person to do it. I turned to her and said, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. I didn’t even realize that it happened.” She immediately softened. You see, in order to be happy we have to understand God’s radical grace, and sometimes I think many of us just don’t grasp the power of it!
Re-Joy, not condemnation.
In Philippians 4:4, Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Sometimes we have to regroup and RE-Joy ourselves. The verse says it: REJOICE! We have to refocus, not on what we have done, but on what Jesus did for us. We have to let go of the condemnation. In Romans 8:1 it says, So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Why do we hold onto all that junk? We don’t know what we don’t know.
What I missed out on because of what I didn’t know.
I went to speak in northern New York state. My train ticket from New York City was paid for by the church where I was going to speak. I had never taken a train before. I got on board, shoved my bags in the overhead bin, was packed in with everyone else and road the rail! Sure I enjoyed the scenery, but it’s only so fun being packed in with a bunch of other folks. When I arrived, the Pastor asked me if I had enjoyed the additional services and all of the extras. I asked if we were talking about the same train. He said that he had bought me a first class ticket. The problem is that I didn’t know that, so I didn’t get to enjoy the benefits. He was heartbroken because of the price he had paid and then I grew frustrated that I had missed out on such an awesome experience.
The price has been paid, enjoy the ride!
Imagine that Jesus is sitting there looking at you, walking out your life today. He’s saying, I paid the price, enjoy the ride! It breaks His heart to see us get caught up in our own actions and decisions, when He had overcome it all. Our performance doesn’t get us to heaven, but His does. So go rejoice today because your life is paid for, now go enjoy the trip!
