When we get offended, we are sticking our hand into a shark’s mouth. And when we get into secondary offense we are doing it on PURPOSE. We aren’t the ones who got hurt; someone else got hurt, but we take on the offense as if it happened to us. Either way that it happens, the enemy is ready to clamp down and hurt us.
Secondary offense
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you. (1 Peter 4:12) In yesterday’s blog, the people muttered and complained. Jesus sure wasn’t hearing it. And yet we do the same thing when those we care about are hurt.
Offense Is Inevitable
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible, but that offenses will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! (Luke 17:1) It’s impossible for sharks to stop swimming around in the ocean, but whoa to him who sticks his hand in the shark’s mouth. When the people muttered about Zacchaeus, it was not anyone’s business. It was between Jesus and Zach. When we stick our hand where it doesn’t belong the enemy wants to clamp down and hurt us.
Guard The Hedge
Anyone who digs a pit might fall into it [Ps. 7:15; Prov. 26:27]; anyone who ·knocks down [breeches] a wall might be bitten by a snake.
When we don’t forgive, we open the hedge for the enemy to come in and bite us. There is pain and consequences when we stick our hand into the shark’s mouth of offense. Be careful when playing around with judgment because you can very quickly get bit and sucked into offense.
Be Encouraged!
Lord we know that you are in ultimate control and that vengeance is yours (Deuteronomy 32:35). We let go of offense as quickly as it rises up before us. We will not allow our hands to get caught in the shark’s mouth. We are guarding the hedges of our lives and those of our families so as not to give the enemy an opening. Amen!
