Have you ever gone to an amusement park where they hand out those little cartoon maps showing where all of the rides are? The first thing we do is look for the “You are HERE” words. Then we decide where we want to go and map out a route to our first adventure! Yesterday I blogged about the importance of leaving “here” to go “there”. What we often don’t realize is that the real growth occurs IN BETWEEN here and there. It’s not a destination, it’s a journey.
There’s a pit between here and there.
In Genesis 37-46, there was a guy named Joseph who had a dream that God was going to put him in a position of power and that his family would bow down to him. What God failed to mention is that in order to get from here to there Joseph was going to have to go through hell and a pit (Genesis 37:24). Joseph was falsely accused and ran from temptation (Gen 39:11-12). He spent time in prison and had a lot of setbacks! (Genesis 39:20)
God is more concerned with what’s happening inside than outside.
The message in Joseph’s experience was not what God was going to do in his life in a tangible way, the things that people can see, such as being in a position of power (Genesis 41:40; 46). God isn’t as concerned with what’s going on outside, as what’s going on inside. He allows systems to change, He allows problems, and He builds us up while we’re in the pit.
They call them growing pains for a reason. They hurt!
What we’re going through right now and what you are going to go through, there’s going to be some pain.
– People will steal break your heart
– People will trample your dreams
– People will steal your invention
– People will lie about you
If you stay right here focused on all of the ways you’ve been wronged, you’ll never leave here and get to there. The favor is OVER THERE!!! So GO!
Are you focused on what is behind or what is ahead?
Staying “here” keeps us looking in the rearview mirror. There is a reason the windshield is larger than the rearview mirror. We’re supposed to spend more time looking at what is in front of us rather than what is behind. Focusing on the past keeps us at a standstill. Remember it is easier to direct a moving car than one that is standing still. Are you moving ahead so that God can more easily direct your steps?
In the world, we go through hell, but God shows us the way to the other side.
God doesn’t tell us about the favor because we’ll do things for the wrong reason. He doesn’t tell us about the hell, only the world does that. God just shows us which way to go and expects us to start walking because our obedience is better than sacrifice. God knows the beginning and the end. He said, “I am going to bless you coming in and going out.” (Deuteronomy 28:6)
So go through the hell, go through the problems, go through the trial but REMEMBER, God is still on the throne, he is still going to, “do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us!” (Ephesians 3:20)
