Definition: to bury or drown beneath a huge mass. How many people find themselves overwhelmed on a daily basis?

1. We need to realize, at that moment that we are overwhelmed.

When we don’t admit it and deal with it, then other problems rise from it. We stop getting along with our mate or our kids. We overreact to the smallest of problems. When they try to lean on us with what they are overwhelmed about, we just get more overwhelmed. So, the first thing we need to do is realize that we are overwhelmed and admit it.

2. Ease up on yourself and God loves you just the way you are.

There’s a side of me that thinks I always have to go, go, go. It says, “You’ve got to read, and you need to pray and you gotta, you gotta, you gotta…” I end up completely depleted. All of my energy and emotional stamina is gone. I sit here and wonder why I feel bad and as it turns out many of the things that overwhelm me are works-based. God doesn’t pressure me, I do.

3. We don’t have to earn God’s love and approval.

We get overwhelmed when we don’t focus on the fact that tomorrow will be a good day, God loves us the way we are, and we need to choose to refresh ourselves and to replenish our soul instead of staying overwhelmed.

4. Figure out what replenishes your soul.

When I say, we need to replenish our soul, I don’t just mean reading the Bible but taking care of ourselves. For example, it helps me to hang upside down on an inversion table, to do little workouts, or to sit in a sauna. Each of us is going to have something different that refuels our tank. Think about what that thing is for you, do it, relax, and trust God.
