I Don’t Always Feel Like Preaching

When we are tired, hungry, thirsty, or when we are emotionally drained, we react and overreact. I don’t always feel like preaching, but I do. I don’t always feel married, but my wife, Nicole reminds me that I am. I don’t always feel like a Dad, but I am. I don’t go by what I feel. I don’t do it all perfect, but I have responsibilities based on the will of God.

We Make Temporary Wrong Decisions Based On Our Flesh

I prefer not to be held accountable for what I say when I’m hungry. Come on, we all KNOW what a bad idea it is to go grocery shopping when we’re hungry. Have you ever gotten home late, missed meals and then lost your mind overeating? It’s amazing how if we had just drunk a gallon of water to calm our stomach, we might have made a different decision.

If we had just taken a few hours to cool off before responding, we might not have said what we did.

If we did not act on what we feel, we might not have a regret that I bet some of you are having in some area of your life right now.

We Don’t Always Feel Like It, But We Need To Do What Jesus Did

  • Jesus took time alone.
  • He didn’t speak when he was in pain.
  • He spoke the word instead of just talking.
  • He spent time with friends.
  • He was patient with his friends when they weren’t there for him.
  • He was patient with his friends when they didn’t understand his purpose.
  • He stayed the course even when they weren’t faithful to stand with him.
  • He ate, drank, and rested.
  • He spent time with the father to renew his mind.
  • He valued people and relationships over things.

We need to follow his example the next time we don’t “feel” like doing what we are called to do.
