Have you ever looked for your sunglasses for 15 minutes only to have someone tell you that they’re on your head? Or maybe you’ve looked for your keys for 30 minutes only to find them in your pocket? Many times we get so busy that we do things without thinking and we miss what’s right in front of us.

When trying to find talent for our organization, it seems to be too default to look outside of the organization. If we pay attention and ask the right questions, we might discover a myriad of hidden talents among the people in our own organization. I have found that the greatest abilities, including people who know the organizational culture, are the ones already on the inside.

Don’t Overlook What’s Right In Front Of You

It’s important to walk down the halls of your organization, engage people and offer them the observation of ‘job well done’. Make conversation with your team to open up a two-way dialogue that will help you understand them as well as their gifts. Many times during these walks, I uncover an unseen strength that is needed within our organization.

I’d like to encourage you today to take time to communicate with your business organization, but also with your family. Talk to the people you live with and who love you. Their interests, desires and preferences will surface and with that one revelation, that one person, might bring great joy to everyone in your family unit.
