If the main thing we hear is the news, then we are going to be depressed and negative. I was reminiscing about my Dad recently, so I listened to a few Merle Haggard songs. As I listened to the words, I began to realize why my Dad had such a struggle with depression. It was because his inputs were depressing. I turned on Joel Osteen and listened to words such as, “I am equipped, I am qualified, I am empowered, and I have everything I need to fulfill my destiny.” See if you get depressed after saying that ten times.

But Pastor Don’t You Realize What’s Going On In The World?

I am aware that there is always something going on in the world to be upset about. A few examples over the past 20+ years are:
– Bombings on CNN, Fox News and every other news network
– ISIS and beheadings
– Fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq
– Various Presidents who have spent time in the Whitehouse
– Y2K
– Anthrax
– $5.00 per gallon gasoline
– Economic turmoil

God knew this would happen, and that’s why the Bible says to THINK ON THE FOLLOWING THINGS, whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. (Philippians 4:8) We have a choice in how we focus our thoughts and the inputs we choose to listen to.

Be Encouraged!

Lord, I pray for each person right now. You know each person’s difficulty. I declare the enemy’s power over them to be broken. Help each person to have an awareness of how their Facebook timeline and news inputs are influencing their joy. Your joy is our strength. We choose your word over the inputs of the world to drive our thinking. Thank you, Lord, for knowing our needs and providing. Amen!
