There once was a person who was a pick pocket. They rationalized that the people whose pockets they picked could afford it. Likewise, people make excuses that God doesn’t need the first ten percent of their earnings. If God can create the world from scratch, he can create the money he needs, right? In Malachi 3:8, God says differently. God says we have robbed him of the tithes and offerings due him. So, if we are not paying our tithe, then we are a thief.

Everyone Else Is Doing It

Eighty percent of the church doesn’t tithe, so the contributions to the people, the community, and the world are supported by twenty percent of the people.

Dad’s Money

When a parent provides for their child and then the child gives part of that provision back, it shows honor. When the child is completely unwilling to share, it dishonors the parent. God wants us to honor him by proving that we acknowledge he is our Provider. He asks for that proof in our tithe.

God Says, “Test Me In This.”

Malachi 3:10 describes God offering for us to test him. He says if we will bring the tithe to his House, he will pour out a blessing so great that we won’t have room enough to take it all in.

Get Passionate About Honoring God

Lord, help each person reading this today to understand that you love them so much that you do not want them under a curse. You want them to be blessed. Help them to see your provision in their lives and to honor you with their tithe. Lord, pour out a blessing that is pressed down, shaken together and running over (Luke 6:38). Amen!
