Do we believe God modeled rest because he needed rest? NO! So why did he stop on the sixth day and rest on the seventh? Why didn’t he go 24×7, for 30, 60 or 90 days straight? If we consider how we teach young children to cross the street, we model it as we guide them. We deliberately stop and look both ways in a delayed and exaggerated manner. When it’s all clear, we explain that we can cross. God knew we wouldn’t just listen, but that we needed to see him lead by example.
I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead. Have You Ever Said That?
Rest is mentioned throughout the Bible because it is invaluable, and even Visa can’t buy it. Some people who push themselves will use the statement, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” to justify not stopping to rest. People often don’t even rest when they stop and close their eyes. They continue to go 100mph in their head. God is efficient, and everything he does and says has a purpose. God, our Father, modeled rest because we needed to see it modeled by a parent.
A Few Words For You:
Lord, we live in a fast food, on-demand world that is connected 24×7. It draws us in with the lure that going faster is the answer. Help us to realize that we don’t need to make things happen. Help us to realize that our natural goes farther, faster, when it’s paired up with your super. Real success comes when we follow your model of rest. Help us to model your example to those around us. In your name, Amen!

Consider The Daily Luxury Of Rest In These Verses:
-Come away by yourselves…and rest a while. Many…had no leisure even to eat. (Mark 6:31)
-It is in vain that you rise early and go late to rest… (Psalm 127:2)
-If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (Proverbs 3:24)
-The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27)
-In peace, I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)
-Come to me… and I will give you rest. Take my yoke…and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-30)
-Elijah killed hundreds of men. When he was sapped of his strength, he became fearful, ran from a woman, and told God he was worthless and wanted to die. Solution: Sleep, eat, drink; sleep, eat drink; GO! (1 King’s 19:1-8 paraphrased – God’s solutions are simple.)
