In the Bible, Saul had the look and the type of image that caused people to want him as their king. When the people got him, they no longer wanted him. Saul had a self-war that was fed by jealousy for David. He was tormented by an evil spirit and couldn’t sleep. David would play the harp, and the spirit would leave, and Saul would feel better. We do something similar in trying to quiet our internal voices with the television.

Both Saul And David Had Self-Wars

David had a self-war going on. He knew God had shown him he was to be the king one day, yet he had to serve this man who kept trying to kill him. And David, as an honorable man, live by the tent, touch not mine anointed ones; do my prophets no harm. (Psalm 105:15)

Ministers Have Self-Wars

The people who minister to you are often as jacked up as you, and that is why they can minister to you. I can’t identify with a perfect-looking politician. I’m not going to act like I have it together. I’m going to tell you that I’m jacked up so that I can minister to you to help you deal with your self-war and to help God use you.

Celebrate!

Say this with me, I have a self-war but it is full of lies, and it is not a match for God’s truth. I read, speak, and think about the truth of God’s promises. I acknowledge that others have self-wars, and I pray for and am patient with them. I FOCUS on what God says about me; I REPEAT what God says about me, and I BELIEVE what God says about me. Amen!
