I mentioned a few things in yesterday’s blog about how to deal with being overwhelmed. We need to identify that we are overwhelmed, be kinder to ourselves, stop trying to earn God’s approval through checkboxes and do that thing that refuels our soul. Each of us has something unique that rejuvenates us. Lastly, we need to relax and trust God. I’d like to add a few more for today.
1. Reduce the enemy’s foothold by refocusing and trusting God.
The Bible reads, Bless the Lord, O My Soul (Psalm 103). So I’m saying out loud, “I’m going to bless you, Lord, I’m going to trust you, I’m not going to be overwhelmed. I’m taking my focus OFF of the debt, what people think about us or the setback or the diagnosis, or whatever it is. Every time I think I’m overwhelmed, the enemy is thinking, “Good! I’ll just pile on more!” Instead, we need to say, “I’m going to refresh my soul, I’m going to make sure I get some sleep, I’m going to drink some water and renew my mind.”
2. God is not keeping score.
We need to stop thinking there’s some point system where if we don’t pray for an hour or read a bunch of books, that we can’t be the full leader that we are supposed to be. We tend to go, go, go, so sometimes just by chilling, taking in a deep breath and resting, we can replenish our soul.
3. Just. Laugh.
Break out of being overwhelmed by doing something natural such as laughing at a funny movie, listening to a silly song, or just goofing around. A merry heart does good like a medicine (Proverbs 17:22). But if we are always focused on checking off boxes, watching the news, trying to find out what the President is going to do next, then we just become overwhelmed.
Be Encouraged
Lord, I decree and declare that each of your children is relinquishing their concerns to you (Psalm 55:22). They are finding something to laugh at; they are refueling their soul with something that reaches deep down in their core and renews their mind. They trust in you and receive your love and acceptance today. Amen!
