No Christianese Required

When Jesus saw the fishermen, Simon, Peter and Andrew, he said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:18-19

Jesus didn’t walk up to these guys and say, “If you died today, do you know if you’re going to heaven or hell?” Jesus talked to people about subjects they could relate to and for these guys that was FISHING! Jesus was all about fishing and in his world it was about fishing for men!

It’s A Simple Everyday Conversation

A while back I caught a person just by talking to them at a McDonalds. I was ordering coffee when I struck up a conversation with two elderly women. The guy behind the counter had been in a car accident and said, “Thank God I’m alive.” One of the women was impressed with the guy’s attitude. I said, “I love the way this guy said thank God I’m alive!” I brought up God without using Christianese. I was determined to convince this woman SOMEHOW that the greatest church is at the intersection of Hwy 94 and I-64. I didn’t do it by preaching out of the bible. It was just basic conversation.

We Don’t Win People By Accusing Them

This process is all about loving others to Jesus. Go home from the next church service and tell your unsaved spouse that you want to rub their feet or cook or clean for them. Your spouse will get so excited that church is having such a positive impact on you. Not only will they want you to keep going but they will eventually want to be a part of this great thing WITH you. Join me today in accepting people as they are, meeting their needs, and loving them as Jesus loves us.
