Do you ever feel like you don’t know what to say to God? God made us from dust; it doesn’t get any more raw than that! God wants to hear the organic stuff, the real down-to-earth issues and concerns that are going through our head and heart. He wants us just to have a conversation with him. Because that is what we do when we have a relationship with someone and we HAVE a relationship with God.

The Formal Example

Jesus teaches us how we can pray in the Bible in Matthew 6:9-13. It is the prayer that begins with, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done…” And Jesus gives this example because he is trying to show that we shouldn’t be repetitious or try to be fancy to impress others. We should pray for God to hear, not to impress those on earth who are listening.

A Real Life Example

I have a friend who told me he just says things like, “Hey, God, it’s cool being in St Louis, it was fun, thanks for having people like me and love on me!” God doesn’t need, “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, the home of the free, the land of the brave, and Mary had a little lamb. Amen.”

God Gets It

The cool part is that God understand when you talk. The scary part is that God understands when you talk. You can be YOU and talk to God. He WILL talk back to you. As the conversation continues, you will begin to recognize his voice. You will begin to realize when that whisper inside is him and not just you.
