Summer is a time of celebration, getting outdoors and enjoying the weather. The Bible reads in 1 Corinthians 13:11, “When I was a child I spoke as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish ways.” It’s not that we can’t have fun. It means we long for the milk of the word (the feel-good stuff) but we NEED the meat of the word (the stuff that helps us grow). We need to keep chewing on the word until we sink our teeth into it.
Tender, But Not Overdone
We need to keep our hearts tender towards God, not stiff and rebellious. When we keep our hearts surrendered, we are sensitive to what God is saying to us. We stay pliable by spending time with him. We are sensitive around a toddler and then toughen up around our peers. God wants us to come to him with the heart of a child (Matthew 18:3 paraphrased). He wants us to be open, ready, and willing.
Take A Hike Around A New Mountain
The Bible contains the terms and conditions for life. God manufactured us and knows how we function the most effectively. As we go around the same mountains, we are like the walking dead. We repeat the SAME behaviors while expecting DIFFERENT results. God came that we might have LIFE! (John 10:10) We need to make a different choice starting with the very next decision.
Say This Out Loud With Me
Lord, I thank you for loving me enough to pour your truth into my mind. I want to grow and to know you. I WANT your truth. I am committed to staying close to you daily so that I know your voice (John 10:27). As I listen to you, I am taking new paths instead of continuing around the same mountain. I am following you! AMEN!
